Sustainability at Hotel Druk
Caring for Our Guests, Community, and Environment
At Hotel Druk, sustainability is more than a commitment—it is an integral part of how we operate every day. Guided by Bhutan’s philosophy of environmental conservation and mindful living, we continuously seek ways to reduce our environmental footprint while providing exceptional comfort and hospitality to our guests.
Eliminating Single-Use Plastic Bottles
As part of our efforts to reduce plastic waste, Hotel Druk does not provide single-use plastic water bottles in guest rooms.
Instead, guests are provided with sanitized and reusable glass bottles filled with safe, filtered drinking water. This initiative significantly reduces plastic consumption and helps prevent thousands of plastic bottles from entering the waste stream each year.
Multi-Stage Water Filtration System
The quality and safety of our drinking water is a top priority.
Water supplied by the municipal authority undergoes a comprehensive multi-stage purification process before reaching our guests:
• Municipal source water is first stored in our reserve tanks.
• Water then passes through an advanced UV filtration system before entering the main storage tanks.
• Prior to distribution throughout the hotel, the water is filtered again to maintain quality standards.
• Drinking water undergoes an additional UV purification process before being filled into guest room glass bottles.
This rigorous filtration process ensures that guests enjoy clean, safe, and refreshing drinking water while helping reduce dependence on single-use plastics.
Linen & Towel Reuse Program
We encourage guests to join us in conserving one of the world’s most precious resources—water.
Guests have the option to reuse bed linens and towels during their stay rather than having them replaced daily. This simple choice significantly reduces water consumption, energy usage, detergent use, and laundry-related carbon emissions.
Through this program, Hotel Druk saves thousands of liters of water annually while maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and guest comfort.
Healthy Indoor Environments
Many of our newly renovated rooms feature walls finished with American Clay Earth Plaster, a natural and environmentally friendly wall treatment sourced from New Mexico, USA.
Benefits include:
• 100% natural and non-toxic materials
• Zero VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds)
• Improved indoor air quality
• Natural humidity regulation
• Reduced mold growth
• Enhanced guest comfort and wellness
Energy Conservation
Hotel Druk actively promotes responsible energy usage throughout the property by:
• Utilizing energy-efficient LED lighting
• Encouraging guests to switch off lights and appliances when not in use
• Regular maintenance of equipment to maximize energy efficiency
• Optimizing heating and cooling systems to reduce unnecessary energy consumption
Supporting Local Communities
We believe sustainability also means supporting people.
Wherever possible, Hotel Druk prioritizes locally sourced products, Bhutanese suppliers, local artisans, and community businesses. By doing so, we contribute to local economic development while reducing transportation-related environmental impacts.
Reducing Food Waste
Our culinary team continuously monitors food preparation and consumption patterns to minimize food waste. Careful menu planning, responsible purchasing, and efficient kitchen practices help us reduce waste while maintaining exceptional dining experiences for our guests.
Waste Segregation & Recycling
Hotel Druk follows responsible waste management practices by encouraging the segregation of recyclable and non-recyclable waste. We continuously seek opportunities to reduce waste generation and increase recycling wherever possible.
Our Commitment
Sustainability is a journey of continuous improvement. Every initiative, no matter how small, contributes to preserving Bhutan’s pristine environment for future generations.
By choosing Hotel Druk, our guests become partners in this journey—helping us protect natural resources, reduce waste, support local communities, and promote responsible tourism while enjoying authentic Bhutanese hospitality.
Together, we can create a more sustainable future.
